Connect With Like-Minded People, Market Where You Are

Market SaturationIn recent weeks – since the start of the year actually, a lot of people come to me for marketing advice mostly because they see what I’m doing online and they want to know more.

Now I’m no guru, however I have figured a few things out that’s working and I’ll share with one of those right now.

Have you ever heard someone say “the market is saturated” or “too many people are doing that already. There’s no more room” or something equally silly?

I say silly because there’s no such thing as market saturation – only saturated groups, and people who don’t know how to leverage their stories and experience.

Now why do I say that?

When most people join a business, they’re told do do what? Surround yourselves with like-minded people, right?

So what do most people do? They run out and join a few groups on Facebook or LinkedIn or somewhere else, and logic says this too would be a great place to market – other small business owners, entrepreneurs and so on, but here’s what you’ll run into…

You’ll run into groups of people who are already in opportunities and are in the group to do what? You got it – market their opportunity to you and all of the members, so what you have is actually a group of people who are basically there to spread the word about what they’re doing and 10 to 1 they don’t give a hoot about what you’re offering.

This is where a lot of frustration is built because you get marketers who opt-in to your lists with auto-responder software to pitch you, you get bad leads because they aren’t really opportunity seekers, and the whole notion of “saturation” comes into play.

So where should you market?

I’m not saying don’t market in those groups. You should in fact, however what you post should be more along the lines of catering to others in business opportunities for example, instead of targeting opportunity seekers – that’s a different kind of business opportunity market.

I want you to go back in your mind to where you were when you started your first business or business opportunity. What were you doing when you were looking? What prompted you to get involved? Were you working a job or surfing the net?

Chances are you weren’t in a business group of entrepreneurs until after you joined an opportunity and asked someone, “where do you market?”

Myself – I was doing Google searches for business opportunities, and got involved in a few of them. The one business that I stuck with though, I was talking to a friend on Facebook and he introduced me to this.

So where should you market? How about where people like yourself usually are when they’re looking for something else? Your local market, the search engines, social media like Facebook, classified ads and so on.

Here’s a tip, leverage what you do to reach others. For example, I’m a musician and I market in groups of other musicians. Not blatant spam of course. I’ve learned to make what I do fit the needs of others like myself.

So for example, where I’m in Empower Network, I know what the products are good for, so when I see a musician that’s struggling with sales, I’ll talk about how to get more sales and point them to the opt-in link.

Let’s say I ran into someone in real estate who want more exposure for their properties and wants to build a list of prospects, I’d talk to them about how to do that.

If I can leave you with just that one thing, it’s that there’s no such thing as market saturation.

Perspective: There are around 7 billion people on the planet and hundreds of millions every day go from childhood to adult hood and millions of people looking for a better way to do things. If you stick to just the same groups where everybody goes or hangs out you are seriously limiting your options and crippling your success.

I know “market saturation” doesn’t make the most interesting post to read, however I hope that just a tweak in mindset or a change in perspective will open new doors to where and how you market.
