So I know this is a sensitive topic but I decided to blog about it because I’d like to get your feedback.
One of the leaders posted this video with a statement from the Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz talking about Gay Marriage. Just take a moment and watch. It’s only about a minute long.
In the comments below the video I was engaged in conversation with a few people on different tangents and one of those conversations centered around the possible causes of homosexuality. The LGBT community and associated research has always leaned toward that it’s natural behavior and the opposition believes the opposite – that it’s unnatural.
Now both sides have come forward with a lot of research and studies, so far, in my opinion leans against the LGBT community… but I’m not here to talk about that.
What I am here to talk about is a floating theory I had that when people say they were born this way, they may actually be right on that, and to be clear, I am a Christian that believes homosexuality (as all sex outside of traditional marriage) is a sin. Fornication, adultery, bestiality, gay, straight, whatever – it’s all sin where I stand, however…
I do believe that both sides and get a lot more done if they get past the hostility around the topic. I used to blindly follow that it’s a habit or a choice until I actually decided to do some research, and it’s been on going for some years.
“I was born this way,” has been a statement I’ve heard from the LGBT community for as long as I’ve worked with and hung out with them – yes a Christian and a gay person can be friend and can get along, but here’s the question… what if they’re right?
What in the midst of all of the ideology and cross talk there is truth to that and opponents of the gay lifestyle are being just a bit too condemning? I realize I may be on the receiving end of some anger from fellow Christians for asking that, but the only “All in” club I’m willing to be a part of is Empower Network.
I’m a firm believer that people should think on their own and after a lot of thought and research I’ve come to agree with Dr. Ravi Zacharias when he spoke about acceptance of homosexuality in Christianity (see video below).
Now, getting back to my what if statement, and I could be wrong here with this correlation, however please follow my train of thought for a moment…
1. We know that the population of homosexuals have quintupled in recent years and I’m basing that around the sources cited in an IGF Culture Watch article that re-released a Chicago Free Press, which released a then study from Geographic Trends among Same-Sex Couples in the U.S. Census and the American Community Survey. Click here to read.
2. We also know that in the ongoing scientific studies to find a cause for homosexuality has resulted in a relationship between biology and sexual orientation – a combination of genetics, early uterine development, chromosome linkage, birth order, and even hormones and brain structure. For once I feel comfortable using a wiki article because the author lists several sources I’ve read personally. Click here to read.
This is where it gets interesting… I noticed that a lot of the hormones and chemicals like EE2 (17alpha-ethinylestradiol), which is a synthetic estrogen, and other similar hormones can cause feminization of male animals, and even in experiments done show that increasing hormones during pregnancies can result in the birth of homosexual offspring. (Please see the resources listed in the above Wiki link) – I’m not going to list all of the sources individually.
Now as I was reading through the list of hormones my mind flashed back to a study in another topic – drugs and contaminants in our ground water supply including E1, E2, EE2 and others – sex hormones – interesting…
Interesting to me because I watched the battle over things like using hormones to force animals to grow bigger and faster, fertilizers engineered to produce larger yields and so on.
We’ve all seen the studies over the years about our ground water supply and what’s in our drinking water, but it never occurred to me that there might be a correlation.
In this article from Association of Reproductive health Professionals, the authors basically tried to debunk the myths about birth control hormones in water, but the only conclusion they could come up with is.
… synthetic estrogen from birth control and contraception pills is not the sole or primary source of endocrine-disrupting chemicals in water.
In fact, they basically said that we get less in our water from birth control and pointed out that a lot more comes into our water supply from industry, livestock, agriculture and landfills.
Now, I realize as a Christian that I may have just debunked the whole standing on “homosexuality is a choice” as a blanket excuse for hammering homosexuals, but that’s not my intention. All I’m saying is that maybe… just maybe, “I was born that way,” is the truth for some, and it being the choice for others is also true.
The point is that if it’s possible that a person can be born gay, it’s also possible that there is a cause, such as long term exposure and consumption by every living thing as we all share the same water supply, hence the reason why we’re seeing homosexual behavior in animals as well.
Although, in retrospect, I do kinda dread the outcome if my hypothesis is true – it would mean that homosexuality in some is similar to a birth defect that can be “cured” with gene therapy. That’s a fight and a half right there…
