So scanning the news this morning from the past couple days (trying to catch up) I couldn’t resist sharing this post from AP (Washington).
More than 34,000 people have signed an online petition calling on the Obama administration to build the “Star Wars” inspired super-weapon, the Death Star to spur job growth and bolster national defense.

As a hard core sci-fi geek (not a nerd… I get paid for what I do), this actually perked my interest. One of the advisers on science and space however, decided that it’s a no go and the $850 quadrillion estimate cost was too high.
$850 Quadrillion… Did I say I’m not making this stuff up already?… #justchecking.
Of course, looking back at our fiscal ideas, I bet we could build a Death Star if we just stamped a few hundred 1 trillion dollar platinum coins.
Again I intercede… I want one!
What’s the Official Obama administration stance on building a Death Star?
According to Shawcross however,
“…does not support blowing up planets.”
So it seems, at least for now, there won’t be a Death Star guarding our planet from meteors and asteroids, alien invasion forces, and of course, no military conquests of planets far far away.
While the universal (in the true sense of the world) “green” stance is great… I’m mildly let down at the prospect that we CAN build a death star and don’t already have one
