I had a late night last night, the little sleep I did get was interrupted, I woke up this morning feeling exhausted and tired;
then I went into the kitchen and realized that I forgot to load the dishwasher and all the coffee cups were still dirty, (and so was the coffee pot).
Typical Monday right? The truth is, all I wanted to do was go back to bed.
The last thing on my mind was blogging.
I did not want to blog today at all!
So, I let the dogs out and made sure they were happy so they wouldn’t bark and wake me up, then I went back to my room, plopped down in my bed and pulled the covers up over my head.
And then I heard it…
I had left my computer on, and the audio book I was listening too was on repeat and playing again for what must have been the fourth or fifth time. I’m in the process of learning how to learn in my sleep, so some of the books I want to read I will purchase as an audio book and listen to them while I sleep.
The audio book that was playing is “Awaken The Giant Within” by Anthony Robbins, and as I lay there listening I started to remember my goals and my dreams and the decisions I’ve made for this year, and all of the things I wanted to accomplish.
Then I started to visualize having achieved those goals, and it was incredibly vivid, almost like I was dreaming. I could see and smell and feel everything I was visualizing, and in that moment I had a very sobering thought.
What A Waking Dream Reminded Me
The term is called Hypnagogia, a state between falling asleep and being awake; and during that time people can have very vivid dreams. In other words, waking dreams.
(The reverse of that by the way, where you’re in between waking up and being asleep is called hypnopompia. You learned 2 new words today!)
You see, during that “waking dream” everything became so real to me, and everything I’ve been learning about came rushing back to me.
The thought I had was, “If I don’t get up right now, I’ll never achieve those goals.”
And it was in the very real sense that if I don’t get up right now that all of my goals, dreams and desires would never happen.
On my wall I have written the formula for achievement.
Discipline + Consistency = Achievement
To be successful means achieving, and to achieve you have to be disciplined and consistent and laying right there in my bed I was neither.
Discipline in that I am training in both mindset and activity; I have a plan to follow laid out in front of me. Consistency in that I need to follow that plan without fail, every day.
In this business there are many including blogging daily, reading daily, listening to audios daily, marketing daily, coaching new members, and a lot more.
… and being disciplined and consistent is the only way to succeed in anything, so I was left with a choice.
I could drift off to sleep, or I could get up and work and continue building the foundation of the rest of my life.
There is this saying…
“Be careful of your thoughts, for your thoughts become your words.
Be careful of your words, for your words become your actions.
Be careful of your actions, for your actions become your habits.
Be careful of your habits, for your habits become your character.
Be careful of your character, for your character becomes your destiny”
Today I came very close to creating reinforcing a bad habit of procrastination and laziness and that’s not how any good future is built, so here I am laying the groundwork for an amazing success story and destiny.
The down times and hard times and bad times and tough times and lazy times and all of the times like these, when you don’t feel like getting up, when things are weighing on you, when you don’t feel motivated, and everything else is coming down on you…
Those moments are opportunities to build discipline and be consistent – those are the times where achieving builds the character that becomes your destiny.
What kind of destiny will you have?
