E-Book Writing Tips: Creating Content

E-Book Writing Tips: Creating ContentAs someone who’s published three books (and working on my fourth), writing can be a pain, however I finish writing my books in just a week or two, and not months. Creating content is the life blood of any business and writing an e-book is a very good method, so here are a few of my own personal tips that will help speed up the process.

Creating Content Tips

When writing an e-book or creating content of any kind, the first and most important tip I can offer is to not do any writing until you have all of your research. Instead of actually writing, I take notes and make an outline to help me think straight, keep facts in order, and so on.

A big mistake that many people make is to sit and try to write and figure out as they go. Very few have an outline, but no “meat” yet. For me, the hardest part of writing any book or creating content isn’t the writing – it’s the development.

Outlines In Creating Content

I always try to have an outline of what I want to write about from start to finish BEFORE I write or do any kind of content creation.

Secondly, I rehearse my content so that I get the feel of the book and how it will flow. I employ the use of a recording device and speak out loud what I want to say as I go down through my outline and do a bit of role play. It’s actually quite fun to let my imagination run wild.

As I do so, I find that I get ideas for new information, or remember points that I want to make and I definitely remember to write those down on my outline.

Pre-write and Proof-read when creating content

Thirdly, pre-write. After I’m done and I know how my book is going to flow, I have my notes, my research, and all of my details together, I pre-write my book.

This is where I simply write out the content for my book. I don’t worry about page numbers, spelling and punctuation, format, or anything like that. The goal is to get out a readable draft.

After that is done, I proof read, correct and organize my book all at the same time. This last part is usually a few days for me because I’m a bit of a perfectionist, but the point is to not worry about grammar and the fine details until after the draft is done.

As I go through, I write down the page numbers of each section and this will usually becomes the table of contents.

Once I’m satisfied that the core of the book is done, I have it proof read by a few people and get their feedback. A fresh pair of eyes is essential to writing good quality material.

Finally, while all of the information is still fresh, I whip out my recorder and start creating my audio book, by simply reading back the book aloud into the recorder.

As I do, I usually find a few things that I want to change or improve, however, unless it’s a major problem, my goal is to get my book recorded with as little mistakes as possible.

Every step takes me only a few days now that I’m used to the process, with exception to research. For me I can take two to three weeks, depending on how deep I want to go.

Some books, because of interviews, travelling, etc. can take months, however for most books, (like information products), it only takes a week or two.

The Longest Part of Creating Content

With that said, the research phase is often the longest, and it should be, because the more research you do, the better your book content will be. Don’t skimp on the research!

I suggest using Microsoft Word when writing because it has automatic numbering features, page breaks, and really good tools for authoring.

How to make it an ebook?

I’ve been using a program called PrimoPDF (http://www.primopdf.com/) for years. After it’s installed, from my word document I can select print.

When the options for a printer comes up, I select Primo PDF as my printer and click print. You will get a pop up that converts your Word doc to PDF format.

Publishing – if you would like to publish your book, instead of spending thousands of dollars on a publishing company, I suggest Lulu.com, then purchase a distribution package that will get your book listed in major store.

If you already have a large list, your first sales shouldn’t be that difficult. I usually JV with others, or use my book as a front end, limited time offer to lead into my back end.

Creating Content Daily Through Blogging

If going the book-writing route for creating content or any type of written content creation, there is also a very good way to create content – blogging.

And, in addition to creating great content, there are many other benefits that can not only increase your notoriety and reputation, but help you build massive exposure, generate traffic and even earn more income online through publishing.
