When Is The Best Time To Publish A Blog Post?

When is the best time to publish a blog post? It’s been a while since I’ve posted on the topic of blogging, and today I want to share a really cool marketing tip and answer the question:

When is the best time to publish a blog post?

This is a good tip that I’ve been playing with over the past couple of weeks with ads and a few blog posts and what I’ve found is really cool.

I found myself one morning putting out my marketing, and as I was looking to see who’s online, I found myself wondering, “what’s the best time to put this out there for my connections to see this?

So I started looking up that information and I found two ideas.

1) First, you want to post during peak hours of traffic. Common sense right? The more people online, the better chance you have to be seen. Figure out when these peak hours are with demographics and so on, then post during those times.

2) Time doesn’t really matter because it’s 5:00 o’clock somewhere. You want to have your posts shown everywhere and up all the time.

I don’t really have an issue with those two ideas, but it made me very curious, and I started asking myself, “when is the best time for ME to publish a blog post?

After all, I have my own products, my own niche, and the people I’m connected to generally keep the same hours I do.

I’m sure you noticed that certain of your friends or family are on during certain times of the day right? I discovered that markets are the same way, and it’s not necessarily peak traffic hours, and most of them are on my time zone or pretty close to it.

Think about it. If the peak hours of traffic for a social network is 7 to 8 am (early bird email checkers) or midday (lunchers and nooners) or even 10 PM (that’s for the gamers), and the demographic that is my market is online at a different time, I’m really missing an opportunity to capitalize on a very important trend…

New posts and marketing show up at the top of feeds, in forums and groups, and other sites. If I post during a time when my ideal market isn’t on, I’m missing out big time. By the time they see it, it’s old news and probably pushed down by the time the people I need to connect with are  online.

So, I changed up the question of what is the best time to publish a blog post, to “what times do I get the most leads?” I seemed like a more pressing question.

If I could figure out when I get the most leads, I could publish a post an hour or so before my target market is online and it’s at the top of their news feeds and favorite sites when they first log on, (even if it’s a blog I wrote before hand and saved as a draft).

THE GAME PLAN:

I spent a few days going back over my leads, just looking at the times they came in. I did a Gmail search for the notifications that came in when I had a new lead.

As I scrolled through the dates of each one, I took notes and, true to my first thoughts, I realized that the majority of my leads came in during certain times that weren’t peak traffic hours in places where I marketed them.

Specifically for me personally, the bulk of my leads came in between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM, between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, and then again between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

I also took note of where my leads came from and it really confirmed what I was thinking, that no matter what network you’re on, certain people are on at certain times.

So I began writing posts and drafting ads, then saving them as drafts, only to publish them within an hour or half hour of my target markets being online and the results spoke for itself.

I got a lot more leads from publishing just before my target market came online.

In a few ways it’s similar to the power of a launch and capitalizing on the very short but precious buzz time in which something is new, whether it’s a brand new product, or a brand new blog post.

So here’s your assignment…

Begin taking detailed notes of when your leads come in, and use a tracker to determine where they are coming from.

Once you have that information, begin experimenting with different ads and blog posts, publishing them an hour or so before the times you get most of your leads.

I’d like to know what you think…
